Last weekend there was an article in the Times about dairy.
Are you confused about dairy?
Do you think vegan alternatives are healthier because all the young seem to be doing these days is going dairy-free, or do you hate the idea of anything animal-based, and are you being swept on the tide of populist nutrition culture?
Fact 1. Dairy does not raise your cholesterol levels. In fact, it can significantly reduce your likelihood of getting heart disease. Eating natural yogurt daily reduces your chance of getting liver cancer. This ‘news’ has been recently published.
Fact 2. Milk and dairy provide about a third of our daily calcium needs – but leafy greens are another excellent source. Calcium is necessary for healthy bones (together with other synergistic minerals). It also contains many other important vitamins and minerals – including B12 which most vegans and many vegetarians are deficient in.
If you know anyone who is vegan or vegetarian, please get in touch because I am offering a special session on how to ensure you are not deficient. If I get a good response, I will set up a group zoom session.
Fact 3. Fats are essential. So are amino acids (proteins). Carbohydrates are not essential.
Do you think you might be lactose intolerant? This affects around 10-15% of us (the digestive enzyme isn’t available at all or in sufficient quantities to work without problems).
Everyone is different. Fat people fatten easily. it is not their fault.
They are not greedy, lazy, or ignorant. It is likely a hormonal problem.
Many doctors and scientists do not believe this. Those who have never been overweight believe if people who fatten easily do what they (thin people) do they will get their results. (i.e., get thin). But we are not like them. (If I ate like them I would fatten easily again.)
๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธย Why is this? I want my job to be rendered obsolete! I want the obesity crisis to be ended, but the knowledge is still misunderstood!
Cheese can protect against cognitive decline. The fats in the cheese help remove harmful fats according to another study. Cheese is a complete protein containing all essential amino acids. Eating cheese reduces the risk for type 2 diabetes and fermented cheeses such as gruyere (yummy in crustless quiches and my favourite cauli. hash browns (no potato) are great for the gut.
Finally, yoghurt (that’s the natural kind, not the type that Olympic athletes who have never been fat advertise!) reduces the risk for liver cancer or liver disease. It’s also associated with a lower risk for breast cancer and colon pre-cancerous growths.
Milk can reduce your risk for heart disease too. We have reduced our consumption by 50% since 1974. Did you know why iodine is essential for our weight and health? Guess what? It’s in milk.
Butter is also good – not bad for your heart. It’s really nice to finally see a quotation that is right in a national newspaper…
“The evidence to date shows that saturated fat is not associated with a raised heart disease risk”.
๐ย You might think this means you can change your diet completely.
STOP right there.
You may have an intolerance. You may find dairy inflammatory if you have a health or pain condition. You may feel better going to periods dairy-free and other periods where you relax a bit more.
Everyone has a unique set of bacteria in their guts offering immunity and protection. Everyone has a unique physiology.
What you eat does NOT have to be depriving. There are clever swaps, tricks, and ways around it so you still enjoy your food but your body fat melts away. You then feel better.
๐ ย So, if you are still struggling – don’t. I have a huge amount of recipes you can try which are delicious if you are dairy-free, or not. I also offer targeted advice for anyone who is confused about what can be done to reverse the cycle of despair so many people have when they feel blamed by their doctors who advise them to lose weight, but whatever they do fails, making them feel like a failure.
โ๏ธย ๐ Please don’t worry. There is help available. With help, you can feel better starting today. Book your session, and reach out to find out what can be done to address your unique situation.
๐๐ปย So, have you changed your mind about how healthy dairy is?ย – what have you learned about healthy fats? hit reply – I love hearing from you ๐ ๐ ๐
Finally, I am so happy to share that a lovely client has reached her goal weight after making one of the best decisions in her life. She is amazing and willing to talk to anyone who may be sitting on the fence about taking the leap to try a new way. One of her favourite foods? Cheese!
