Hillbilly Elegy on Netflix tells the story of how Yale lawyer JD Vance overcame his mother’s opioid addiction and upbringing of poverty and hardship to become successful.
His Grandma, ‘Mamaw’ told her grandson, “You’ve gotta decide you wanna be somebody or note”
You’ve got to decide if you ‘wanna’ be slim and healthy or not.
It starts with inner drive and determination.
Protagonist JD’s mother was an addict. Mamaw (her mother) lost her temper after she was nearly arrested by police.
“You’ve always got a reason. It’s always someone else’s fault. At some point, you’re going to have to take responsibility or someone else is going to have to step in”.
I get it. It’s tough. I felt for JD’s ‘Mom’. She tried-a lot!
I saw this series and I was SO INSPIRED. I am constantly inspired by my clients – some who have overcome huge adversity and still want to push through further and further and succeed in the area which so many people find challenging. They are not willing to quit.
The human spirit can overcome so much adversity! There is always someone who is worse off than you. When I lived in India for five years I was shocked by the poverty, the filth, the noise, the pollution I saw. I really admire people who value learning and finding the answer. They push themselves to learn the truth about weight loss to get slim. They NEVER give up. To find your truth, get your answers below.
Do you ever feel like you’re drowning?
Victimhood doesn’t work! inews.co.uk article ‘Banning junk food adverts online misses the point – it won’t help obese people like me’.
Sarah Bones believes the government could start with acknowledging that obesity is a mental health issue for some. She thinks subsidised private counselling should be offered. She concludes the article – in a very defeatist way, “‘One thing is that I won’t be getting any real help any time soon.”
As someone who has had many health challenges, I was offered the standard medical treatment. I chose to seek alternative holistic methods of diet and lifestyle. It was my choice. My doctors supported my choice. I have seen both a psychiatrist and clinical psychologists.
I have had CBT. (Cognitive behavioural therapy). I have also had private therapy. I have done courses and invested heavily in my education. Now I help others. I did not blame the government for not understanding me. The NHS is a sickness service which helps its citizens according to a strict set of rules. Some doctors can prescribe slimming classes. Some refer patients to clinical psychologists, but often it is to be paid for by the individual.
I find the people who are willing to continuously learn new things and help themselves get the most out of life. I am sympathetic to those who are confused because they think they are following the correct health, nutrition and lifestyle advice but they are not. That’s why they’re not getting the results they need. Unsuccessful people think they know it all.
